The article examines abbreviation as one of the most important means of language economy in modern Spanish. The study analyzes the main types of abbreviations, their structural and functional features, as well as their role in written, scientific, political, and internet communication. Special attention is paid to the normative principles regulated by the Royal Spanish Academy, along with the phenomena of lexicalization, language play, homoacronymy, and expressive reinterpretation of abbreviations. The paper investigates graphic, lexical, and syntactic abbreviations based on examples from contemporary Spanish. The research demonstrates that abbreviation in Spanish functions not only as a means of linguistic economy but also as an important element of social and cultural communication.
