Abstract

The article examines the functional features of phraseological units in contemporary French socio-political discourse based on publications from Le Monde published between 2015 and 2026. The study is carried out within the framework of discourse analysis and linguocultural approaches, according to which phraseological units are viewed not merely as fixed linguistic expressions, but also as significant carriers of cultural memory, ideological meanings and evaluative models. The analysis demonstrates that phraseological units actively contribute to the structuring of socio-political texts, the development of argumentation, the creation of emotional and evaluative effects, and the strengthening of persuasive impact on the audience. Particular attention is paid to mythological expressions and idiomatic constructions functioning as tools for metaphorizing political and social reality. Through the analysis of expressions such as épée de Damoclès, dans le dédale, recettes en berne and à bout de souffle, the article reveals the ability of phraseological units to condense complex social phenomena and ensure the intertextual coherence of discourse. The study concludes that phraseology in contemporary French socio-political discourse performs cognitive, evaluative, cultural-representative and manipulative functions simultaneously.
